I drive about 25,000 miles a year and despite the fact that England is covered with speed cameras, I can't remember the last time I had a speeding ticket.
I'm not saying that I dont speed, it's just that I seem to have a sixth sense about the cameras - my brain seems to register it before my eyes see it!

Do you get speeding tickets often, or get away with alot of traffic tickets
by JH in.
i didn't get a ticket in over 15 years, although i drive alot.. i always wear my seatbelts, never go more than 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit, and make decent stops, not dead stops, but decent ones..... here in quebec, if ya do a lousy stop, but that i mean if you don't completely stop, they call tha an american stop here.

It's also hot here in good old London Town.
Today it was about 32 and by wednesday it could be a record for here in july - about 37 which I think is the high 90's.
And I'm going to Egypt in August to get some sun - should've stayed in England! -

I've only just read this thread so sorry FinallyFree for the delay but I have to agree whole heartedly with your comments. I was with my (now ex) wife for 19 years and I certainly would answer negatively to all of your questions.
At the time I was trying to be a good JW so I could add a few comments: she never supported me in field service, she never answered up at the meetings, she didn't care about our childrens spirituality, just the clothes they wore, she loved my pay cheque but would never contribute financially herself, she wouldn't allow me to open the house for field service or the group study - I could go on and on but i won't. She always considered herself a good JW too!
I am now remarried to a gorgeous lady who sometimes also posts on this site (alias Bubble). She is so wonderful - she makes me realise that life can be very good indeed, I just love being in her company and experiencing things with her - she makes me happy, she makes me laugh and she makes me feel good about myself. I now can see how my first marriage was a total sham and how mad I was not to end it earlier, but I was under extreme pressure from the Witto's to make it work. -

id JWs RIP you OFF in the MARRIAGE Dept.?
by Ms. Whip inthis photo (taken from a jw group on aol) is quite typical of jw marriage matches.
don't get me wrong, i'm sure they are great people as far as jws go.
but, it made me think.

Absolutely!
I felt pressure to marry 'in the truth' big time. There was only one female in the congo who I even remotely thought was marriage material - and yes I married her when I was just 21.
It didn't take long to realise that this was a BIG mistake. We had nothing in common at all and she didn't even come on field service or join the theo ministry school or anything.
After about 12 or 13 years I realised I had to get out of this disastrous marriage if I was to remain sane.
I found someone else (in the congregation!), and after agonising for many years I finally broke up with my wife, and am now HAPPILY married to my second wife Bubble.
If only I had had the foresight to choose her first!!! -

Yeah, I agree about Rooney. Also if he had got the service from midfield he would have had scored loads of goals in this world cup and we would still be in it. GRRRRRRRRRR!

Did you make life altering decisions because of 1975?
by restrangled ini had extended family members, both with families of 7, abandon good jobs and homes in the suburbs of chicago.
they moved to the wild outskirts of 2 separate states to protect their families from armageddon.
they both waited for 20 years, wound up financially destitute and finally had to move and depend on other family members to recover.. it would be interesting to read the stories from those of you who went through this time period as a jw.. r.

Similar views to many here - I was at school in 1975, no I was not allowed to associate with any of my school friends at my house or theirs.
No I wasn't allowed to be in any school clubs or any extra curricular ativities.
Yes I remember all the stories about persecution and how I must never ever renounce my faith.
Yes my parents are elderly now and they have had to downsize their home because they need the money as the end hasn't come yet - sad thing is they STILL think it's imminent!
I soooo wish I had the foresight in the 1970's to rebel - oh no not me. Let's wait until I'm married to the wrong person for 18 years, ending up seeing someone else and getting divorced and d'fed.
Still, now I am remarried and reeeeeeeally happy! -

I can't believe it - England out in penalty shoot out drama again!!!!!
I thought we had practised them this time - obviously bad practise doesn't make perfect!
And Brazil out - this is getting worse.
England flags taken off my wifes car, world cup wall chart ripped off the fridge, beers left un drunk......
Ah well, it all happens again in four years time and Bubble and I will be there - we are booking up to go to Cape Town for the World Cup 2010! See you at the Table Bay Hotel on the Waterfront! -

How False Can You Be Now?
by serotonin_wraith inhi, my first post but i'll get more into my background later.. i was raised as a jw for sixteen years, one good thing that came from it was my learned ability to lie extremely convincingly using body language and speech.
not just through how they taught you to act, but by leading a double life for so long just to survive childhood.. so how about you?
how false are you able to act now and do you find it helps?

Hi and welome to the oard.
I was raised a JW and was a MS for many years and yes I suppose I did lead a double life.
However now I now definitely do not lead a double life - I have no need to.
I am in sales as is Candidlynuts, and in that field you have to be able to 'wear many different hats' which is not a double life but just fitting in and tuning in to the same wave lengths as my clients.
I love my life now and enjoy making new ('worldly') friends! -

Shame we didn't get the win - i was just shouting out that England had beaten Sweden at last and had won all three group matches when they went and equalised!
Still doesn't matter - we won the group and face Ecuador in the next round.
